Current and former serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) sacrifice a lot for this country.  Yet for many, their battles continue long after they take off their uniforms.

Veteran Friendly Australia believes that unless more targeted and aggressive strategies are developed to address the key social issues that impact many Veterans, the unacceptable suicide rates will never decrease.

 

Quite simply, we see the problem of suicide and self harm as an equation.  Issues such as unemployment, social isolation, financial hardship, alcohol or gambling problems, and homelessness are some of the key inputs.  Fail to address them, and high suicide rates will continue to be the outcome.

Whilst Governments at all levels have critical roles to play in changing this outcome, they alone can't provide all the solutions.  Every single Australian has a role to play - from businesses to community groups through to everyday Aussie consumers.
