I am a Vietnam War Veteran who served in the US Army as a combat military police officer. I was drafted into the military service in the midst of my university studies and arrived in Vietnam as a 19-year-old. My time in country was from mid-1968 to late-1969 during an extended, 15-month tour of duty. My unit was B Company, 720th MP Btn, 18th MP Bde stationed at Long Binh, Bien Hoa. Our role was ambush and reconnaissance, not typical MP duty, and we held a 22 sq mile TAOR protecting the logistics base and nearby airbase. I was honourably discharged with a rank of SGT E-5 in 1974 after my 4-year standby reserve duty was completed. Since 1975, I have lived in Australia having migrated here for employment, completed my university honours degree here, and now hold dual citizenship. I am an active member of the Riverland Vietnam Veterans Association and the RSL in South Australia and would welcome an opportunity to do more for my fellow Vietnam Veterans and for all veterans, particularly those living in regional parts of Australia. I'm now semi-retired from lecturing in environmental management at university and available to contribute to a better, more friendly Australian community for our veterans.
